Manually installing Flash2Svg

Before trying this I would recommend trying to install using the ZXP Installer tool, this will give you access to the HTML5-based User Interface, but will still require manual updates.

If you’re having trouble installing Flash2Svg in Flash, here are some instructions to manually install the plugin.
This works in all versions (CS5 – CC 2017, as of writing) but will only give you the older, flash-based UI, not the newer HTML5-based UI.
Also note, the last version of the plugin that is compatible with CS5/CS6 is version 3.36.
This means some of the functionality won’t be there (e.g. embedding assets) but all of the most recent bug fixes will be available.

  • Download the latest ZXP
  • Change the file name of the extension from ZXP to ZIP
  • Extract the contents of the zip archive
  • Copy the SVG.swf and svg-help.xml files from the FLASH folder into this folder:
    C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Local\Adobe\Flash CS5\en_US\Configuration\WindowSWF
  • Copy the Extensible folder (also from the FLASH folder) and copy the whole folder into this folder:
    C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Local\Adobe\Flash CS5\en_US\Configuration\Javascript

Obviously change the version of flash in those paths to the correct one (e.g. ‘Flash CC 2015’).

Mac is very similar, something like:
/Users/{username}/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Flash CS5/…

On both systems you’ll probably have to show hidden folders to get there.

      Viber hasn’t stopped supporting development.
Also, we added an HTML based UI over a year ago.
The flash-based UI is now only used for CS5 – CS6 and manual installs in CC.

I did every steps, but I can’t find the “WindowSWF” and “Javascript” folders in Mac.
If you can help me I would appreciate it.

Hi Tom, Sorry, I wrote “Nicolas” before.
Well I did it manually and the installation (V 3.36) looked to be completed. Then I restarted my computer.
Now, how can I use the add on? From my Flash (CS6) menu, I can’t find any svg publish option.

Hi, You should be able to find the panel in Window > Other Panels > SVG (in CS5 & CS6).

I use adobe animate cc 2015.02 and manually instal it and get this message all the time from then in output
    A JavaScript error occurred.
    ReferenceError: extensible is not defined
how to fix it and really need your plug in

    1. tom says:

This typically means that the last step (copying the ‘Extensible’ folder) was done incorrectly, probably it was placed in the wrong folder (The Extensible folder should be inside the Javascript folder).
Also, you can try the ZXP Installer, which will install should give you access to the HTML-based User Interface, which is a bit nicer.

    Hi,
Your extension looks interesting, but I had to do a manual install, the extension window opens and I can try to convert (a simple fla with one drawing on he first frame) but I always get this error: “TypeError: svgXml.defs[0] has no properties”.
Do you have any idea what is going wrong and how to fix it?
I’m using Flash CS6 by the way.

    1. tom says:

      Hi Jeroen,
The last version of the plugin that is compatible with CS6 is v3.36.
      Hope that helps.

    hi,thanks for your job,it’s cool.it works well in CS6(V 3.36),but it prints a warning:
WARNING: Blend mode ‘add’ is not currently supported
i’m looking for a way that can transfer my flash game project to html project, maybe flash2svg can do something, have you got any idea?

    1. tom says:

      Hi,
Flash2Svg is really only suitable for non-interactive animations.
For games, I’d recommend you look into the Canvas or WebGL publishing that is possible in Adobe Animate. You’d just have to port your code to JS.

I have create an animation in flash cs6 and then export to SVG. Its working perfectly fine! however it’s not scalable ( responsive). Need help!

  9. JC Gonzalez says:

Hello Tom, the plugin was working flawlessly until 1 month ago, but when I updated to Animate CC Version 19.0 (Build 326) it doesn’t work well anymore.
It only exports 1 layer of the timeline and it’s not even aligned.
I tried to play with all the setting but didn’t manage to solve anything, so probably it’s a problem of compatibility.
Can you have a look at it? I would really appreciate it!
    Thanks for the hard work!

    Hey Tom,
I followed your instructions for manually installing “Flash2Svg”. Sadly I got the message “TypeError: svgXml.defs[0] is undefined” when I try to export the SVG. Maybe it’s because of the new version, maybe i’m just stupid.
    Thanks for your great efford.

    1. tom says:

This would suggest that the native SVG export failed (this generates the static shapes for use in the animated SVG).
This typically happens when the version of Animate is wrong, if you’re using the latest version of Animate then maybe they’ve removed this functionality.
Sorry, I’m not really supporting this plugin any longer.

  11. Carlo says:

    Hi Tom,
please can you tell me in which folder I can get the file svg?
    Regards
    Carlo

    1. tom says:

You can set the output folder path , by default it will be exported into the same directory as your FLA file.
Also, it should write the full path of the exported file in the output panel.
